Assessing provider preferences among family physician clientele: A survey instrument
Tara Shochet, Epidemiology

PLEASE EMAIL POROI@UIOWA.EDU FOR THE TEXT.

Access to abortion services in the U.S. is increasingly strained. Training family physicians to be providers could greatly improve access, but issues of stigma and confidentiality often prevent women from discussing abortion with (or seeking abortion from) their regular doctors. Shochet's research seeks to better understand provider selection as well as doctor-patient communication barriers around this issue. At POROI, she will be discussing a draft of the survey instrument to be used in this study so that participants can workshop the rhetoric it uses to solicit information from patients. How can a survey best gauge patients' preferences for communication around this difficult issue?
