The Critical Territory of an Interdiscipline: Transnational and Intersectional Feminist Inquiry
Naomi Greyser, Women's Studies
"Scholars in Gender and Women's Studies have recently been caught up in debates, rifts and reconciliations around disciplinarity, most dramatically around the value of empirical and poststructural research methods. This essay examines how two rhetorics of inquiry central to academic feminism - intersectionality and the transnational - are negotiating these disciplinary divides as they examine gender's relationship to both race and colonial modernity. More than a slogan enjoining those from different disciplinary locations to 'just get along,' interdisciplinarity turns out to provide crucial grounds for an anti-racist, anti-imperialist feminist politics."
